Satay Guru in Action

The Family Satay Secret

The creator of Sugi Satay, Soo Ghee Tan, comes from a heritage of chefs specialising in authentic Malaysian cuisine. Secret family recipes were handed down from generations, from beef rendangs to varieties of sambals.

The family code was always to use fresh ingredients.

Soo Ghee especially bears a fondness for cooking satay, using the special blend of spices taught to him by his father. "I love the aroma of the spices wafting out of the fresh satays sizzling on the grill. It’s unmistakable."

Origin

Sugi Satay was started in the 1990s by Soo Ghee in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

In the beginning, satay was exclusively made just for close friends and family. Word spread across town quickly, and Soo Ghee’s satays gained much popularity.

Today's Satay Culture

We now share our authentic satay recipe with many satay-lovers all across Melbourne.
